Coeur d'Alene, Idaho got its name from the Native American Indian tribe indigenous to the area.  Wikipedia states that the city name came from French traders that named the indigenous native american indians for their strong trading abilities and that Coeur d'Alene met "shrewd."  It is an old town incorporated in 1887 and covers a 16 square mile area.  It is a midium size town with about 44,000.  The Coeur d'Alene Lake is about 36 miles long and the city sits on the north coast of the lake.
